Harris campaign chair calls on staff to begin the work of "protecting America" from a Trump presidency

Harris campaign chair Jen O'Malley Dillon urged her team to “begin the work of protecting America from the impacts of a Trump Presidency” in a message sent to staff on Wednesday after Vice President Kamala Harris' loss to President-elect Donald Trump.

"Losing is profoundly painful and difficult. Processing this will take time, but the work to shield America from the repercussions of a Trump presidency must start now," O'Malley Dillon shared in an email obtained by CNN.

She added, "I know the Vice President isn’t done with this fight, and I believe the people reading this are also going to be leaders in this shared mission. Consider this a beginning, not an end.”

O'Malley Dillon, who managed Joe Biden's winning 2020 campaign and later served as White House deputy chief of staff, contrasted Harris’ handling of the transition with Trump’s, pointing out that Harris called Trump to concede and assured him she would work with President Biden to ensure a smooth transfer of power—something that was notably absent in 2020.

She went on to thank her team for their dedication, offering insight into the challenging dynamics they faced. "The entire country moved right, but in battleground states, we saw less movement in Trump’s favor. These were our closest contests, which reflects both the efforts you put in and the enormity of the challenge we ultimately couldn’t overcome," she observed.

Harris, alongside her running mate, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, plans to address staff in a call after her speech at Howard University later on Wednesday.
