GOP Candidate Delivers Fiery Final Message in Most Expensive Senate Race in History

Polls heading into Tuesday show the race as a dead heat

Ohio Senate Race Nears End as GOP Candidate Bernie Moreno Delivers Fiery Final Message
BELLBROOK, OHIO — Ohio Republican Bernie Moreno made his final pitch to voters this weekend in the most expensive Senate race in U.S. history. Addressing a large crowd in Greene County, Moreno sharpened his message, drawing a stark contrast between himself and his opponent, incumbent Democrat Sen. Sherrod Brown.
"Brown is too liberal for Ohio," Moreno said to cheers from his supporters. "I'm here to fight for Ohioans. He's for the Green New Deal and DC’s agenda. I'll work every single day to put Ohio’s needs first."
After trailing in the polls for much of the summer, Moreno has surged in recent weeks, nearly pulling even with Brown as Tuesday’s election looms. Asked if he’s nervous about the tight race, Moreno dismissed concerns, citing the enthusiasm of his supporters. “People are ready for a change. High prices, open borders, instability—Ohioans see the Washington elite taking care of everyone but them.”
Moreno also took aim at Brown's criticisms of "greedy corporations," claiming, “The greediest organization on earth is the government.” He tied Brown's record to rising costs, alleging that government overspending and restrictive policies on energy have driven up prices across the board.
On immigration, Moreno accused Washington leaders of failing to protect Americans by allowing unvetted immigration. "If you love the people of this country, you wouldn’t allow 12 million people to enter without vetting," he said.
Brown's campaign, meanwhile, has pushed back hard, running ads that target Moreno’s business practices and stance on abortion. A Brown spokesperson countered that Brown has “worked with Republicans and taken on special interests to lower costs for Ohioans,” contrasting that with what they describe as Moreno’s self-interest.
This race, now the priciest in Senate history, is projected to top $500 million, surpassing the record set by the 2020 Georgia Senate race. Tuesday’s outcome is pivotal for Senate control, with Republicans viewing Brown's seat as one of their best chances for a Senate majority. The Cook Political Report has rated the contest as a "toss-up."
