Patriots' Defense Shines in Upset Victory Over Bengals

Video The 2024 Patriots entered the season with low expectations, while the Bengals were seen as strong contenders. However, Week One told a different story.

New England traveled to Cincinnati and delivered a stellar defensive performance in head coach Jerod Mayo’s debut, pulling off a surprising 16-10 victory over the favored Bengals.

Keion White stood out for the Patriots, racking up 2.5 sacks and spearheading a defensive effort that left Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow struggling throughout the game. Although Bengals wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase, who had skipped training camp and preseason in a contract holdout, played well, Burrow couldn’t connect with him downfield often enough.

Patriots quarterback Jacoby Brissett had a quiet game, but that’s all the Patriots needed. He managed the game effectively and avoided turnovers, allowing New England to secure the win. The game ended with Mayo receiving a celebratory Gatorade shower from his players, marking a memorable start to his head coaching career.
